Five GSCS Middle School Students Selected as 2025 REACH Georgia

Scholars
Griffin-Spalding County SchoolsHeadline

Five eighth graders from the Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) were honored as 2025 REACH Georgia Scholars during a special signing day ceremony. Each student was awarded a $10,000 REACH Georgia Scholarship at a luncheon hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Griffin on Wednesday, November 5.

REACH—Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen—supports Georgia’s high-potential, low-income students by providing academic, social, and financial resources to help them complete high school, pursue college, and succeed in postsecondary education.

Students selected for the REACH program in middle school commit, along with a parent or guardian, to maintaining at least a 2.5 GPA, staying free of disciplinary, drug, and criminal issues, and meeting regularly with a mentor and academic coach through high school graduation.

Scholars who fulfill all program expectations receive the full $10,000, awarded as $2,500 each year for up to four years, to attend any eligible two- or four-year institution in Georgia.

The GSCS 2025 REACH Georgia Scholars are:

  1.  Cyron Anthony – Carver Road Middle School
  2.  Kyndell Bullock – Rehoboth Road Middle School
  3.  Carter Greer – Kennedy Road Middle School
  4.  Emily Montoya – Cowan Road Middle School
  5.  Sofia Vargas – Carver Road Middle School

During the ceremony, students and their families signed their scholarship commitment forms—mirroring the tradition of athletic signing days—while principals, counselors, district leaders, sponsors, elected officials, and Kiwanis Club members looked on.

Local partners contributing to this year’s scholarships include Chick-fil-A of Griffin, Brightmoor Hospice, the Kiwanis Club of Griffin, Marukan Vinegar, and the Rotary Club of Griffin.

This marks the ninth REACH cohort for GSCS, with these scholars expected to graduate from Griffin and Spalding high schools in 2030.
