Elijah Griffin Commits to Georgia, Bolstering Bulldogs' 2025 Defensive Line

Elijah Griffin, a five-star defensive tackle from Savannah, Georgia, has committed to the University of Georgia, strengthening the Bulldogs' 2025 recruiting class.

Griffin, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 280 pounds, is recognized as the nation's top defensive tackle and the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2025 class.

His decision to join Georgia over Miami and USC was announced during a ceremony at Savannah Christian Preparatory School.

Initially, Griffin planned to extend his recruitment until the early signing period in December.

However, after attending Georgia's 41-31 victory over Mississippi State, he chose to commit earlier than expected.

With Griffin's commitment, Georgia's 2025 class now includes 16 ESPN 300 prospects, nine of whom are ranked in the top 100.

Griffin becomes the highest-rated member of this class, joining other top defensive recruits like outside linebacker Zayden Walker (No. 16), defensive end Isaiah Gibson (No. 30), and cornerback Shamari Earls (No. 75).

Georgia's recruiting class was previously ranked No. 5 in ESPN's team rankings for the 2025 cycle.

Griffin's commitment is expected to elevate the Bulldogs' standing even further.

The relationship between Griffin and Georgia dates back to when the Bulldogs offered him a scholarship at the age of 13.

Over the years, Griffin made numerous visits to Athens, developing a strong bond with the coaching staff, particularly defensive line coach Tray Scott.

During his time at Savannah Christian, Griffin led the Raiders to a state title game appearance in 2023.

He began his senior season with impressive stats, including 69 career tackles for loss and 33.5 sacks.

Griffin's recruitment journey included unofficial visits to Georgia in January, Junior Day events at Florida and Clemson in the spring, and official visits to Miami and USC in June.

In July, he narrowed his choices to Georgia, Miami, and USC before attending Georgia's season opener against Clemson in Atlanta.

Although additional visits to Miami and USC were anticipated, Griffin's strong connection with Georgia's coaching staff led him to finalize his decision sooner.

His commitment is seen as a significant addition to Georgia's defensive lineup, potentially influencing other top recruits to consider the Bulldogs.

Georgia continues to pursue other high-profile prospects, including five-star defensive tackle Justus Terry and ESPN 300 safeties Eric Winters and Lagonza Hayward Jr.

With Griffin's commitment, Georgia is poised to secure its ninth consecutive top-three recruiting class since 2017.

As the early signing period approaches, the Bulldogs aim to further solidify their roster with top-tier talent.
