Griffin celebrates a major win as a local resident claimed the $4 million top prize in the Georgia Lottery’s 200X The Money scratch-off.

The lucky ticket was purchased at Kip’s Package Store on South Hill Street, with the winner choosing a $2,028,082 cash payout and remaining anonymous.

Adding to the excitement, a Fayetteville player recently took home a $521,751 Fantasy 5 jackpot from One Stop Amoco/BP on Highway 138 SW, matching all five numbers in the January 20 drawing.

These remarkable wins have energized local communities and spotlighted the transformative potential of Georgia Lottery games.

Lottery proceeds play a vital role in funding educational programs statewide, including the HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K initiatives, with over $30 billion contributed since inception.

Daily chances to win continue, reminding everyone to play responsibly and enjoy the thrill in moderation.

Griffin, Ga. — The Griffin City Council has unanimously enacted a 180-day freeze on new data center permits, pausing any applications until mid-July.

The goal is to give city planners the chance to review— and, if needed, revise—rules covering data centers and similar high-tech sites.

This temporary stop comes as leaders evaluate important concerns, including power demand, water use, noise, and added traffic.

Griffin's halt follows a statewide trend: DeKalb County has extended its moratorium until early 2026, and Coweta County has begun a similar 180-day pause to study infrastructure impacts.

Communities are recognizing the heavy resource strain data centers can bring.

With this pause, Griffin hopes future tech growth supports long-term planning and safeguards residents’ quality of life.

Local officials will look to other cities’ approaches as they consider updating Griffin’s Unified Development Code.

Did You Know

“Because There’s Always Something New to Learn”

Here are three of the least common New Year’s resolutions among people age 50 and over, along with a brief explanation of why they’re less popular:

1. Learning a Brand-New Technology or App

Many adults over 50 prefer technology that already works for them. Instead of chasing the latest apps or platforms, they tend to focus on tools they’re comfortable with and that genuinely add value to daily life.

2. Career Climbing or Job-Hopping

By 50, many people are settled in their careers or are thinking about stability, flexibility, or retirement planning rather than promotions, career changes, or starting over professionally.

3. Extreme Fitness Goals

Resolutions like running a marathon, intense bodybuilding, or high-impact workouts are less common. Adults 50+ usually choose moderate, sustainable health goals such as walking more, stretching, or improving mobility instead of pushing physical extremes.
