“Keeping Griffin buzzing with good vibes đ” |
The Georgia House has passed House Bill 1001, aiming to lower the state income tax rate from 5.19% to 4.99% starting retroactively on January 1, 2026.
This move fast-tracks earlier tax cut plans and removes previously required revenue targets.
Republican supporters believe the reduction will fuel economic growth and give taxpayers more control over their earnings.
Representative Will Wade stressed that the money rightfully belongs to the public, not the government.
Democratic critics warn the cut may favor high-income residents and could strain the state budget, potentially compromising vital services if revenues decline.
Representative Sam Park pointed out the disparity, noting that wealthier Georgians stand to benefit most.
The bill now heads to the Senate for further debate, with a decision that will impact Griffin and communities statewide. Read More... |

Join us on Tuesday, March 3rd for âpizza and a movieâ as we watch a documentary that forces us to consider an uncomfortable question about what we would do as a witness to violence: âWhat would I do?â
âWhat would I have done?â That is the question raised in the wake of the brutal murder of 28-year-old Kitty Genovese in the early morning hours of March 13, 1964.For decades, the name âKitty Genoveseâ was synonymous with apathy after it was reported that she was stabbed to death while 38 witnesses did nothing. But a fresh examination of the events of that night raises questions about the truth of that narrative.
The Witness is a gripping, thought-provoking documentary about this brutal murder that draws audiences into a world where a single deadly event in the 1960s reverberates to this day, challenging witnessesâ memory, responsibility, and truth. This UGA-GRIF-A-RAMA screening offers a rare opportunity to experience a film that lingers long after the final frame, inviting reflection, conversation, and a deeper look at the consequences of bearing witness. It leaves each of us asking, âWhat would I have done?â A panel discussion will follow the screening.
This âpizza and a movieâ event is free and open to the public, but registration is REQUIRED. |
